Shi no Numa is one of CoD Zombie’s most infamous maps. Here’s five things it does wrong.
#5: The Zipline was the first time we saw an attempt at fast-travel in Zombies, and it landed flat on its face. It’s not placed well and does not cover enough distance to be useful.
#4: While Shi no Numa is the biggest map in World at War, it also doesn’t use space well. Most of your game will be spent on the half of the map with the Comms Room and Flogger, making the other half just a stopping point to get two of your four perks.
#3: Speaking of perks, this is the first map to feature randomized perks, which, while not particularly offensive here, would become a major problem on some maps.
#2: Shi no Numa continued to mark a tone shift set in Verruckt. While the rest of World at War makes you feel like a cog in a machine committing unspeakable atrocities in war, Shi no Numa attempts to make you feel like a badass. While I love the new characters, they also should be afraid of the zombies, especially at this point, and it continues to clash with the rest of the game.
#1: The water that covers the map is an extreme hindrance. Slowing the player to a grinding halt does not make for good gameplay, and it’s even worse here since there’s no counter.
