GAME DESCRIPTION
Top Gear 2 is a racing game made in 1993 for the Super Nintendo by Gremlin Interactive and published by Kemco. A version was also made for the Sega Genesis, the Amiga and the Amiga CD 32. By far the most popular and well-known of the Top Gear 2, the Super NES port is a direct sequel to the first game, keeping the arcade gameplay but being a bit more realistic on physics.

By far the most popular and well-known of the Top Gear 2, the Super NES port is a direct sequel to the first game, keeping the arcade gameplay but being a bit more realistic on physics.
Once you start the game, you are presented with the setup screen. By winning prize money from races, the player can upgrade the car for various purposes. Around mid-game, the car will be fully upgraded. You can upgrade the engine, the transmission, buy tires for snow and extra nitro. It is also possible to buy equipment designed to protect the car itself, taking less damage depending of what type of protection.
You can change color of your car after each race, and is the only change that is free for the player.
Once the setup is complete, the player enters the race with 19 other competitors. Its position is determined by what position the player had in the previous race. For example, if the player ended up in the second position, he/she will start on the 19 positions in the next race. For the first race, the player always starts last.
Top Gear 2’s main feature is the nitro. Using it will cause the car to go very fast, easily catching most opponents but also making turn harder to perform. However, the nitro work as a temporary booster, meaning that the key to win the race is the use the nitro pellet at the right time. The player initially starts with 5, but can buy more slot later in the game. The driver will occasionally shout something based on the current action, such as going in front of another car or damaging the car by hitting the side road.
In some race, three icons can appear and give advantage to the player :
The N icon which is an extra nitro pellet
The S icon, giving you a boost similar to the nitro pellet, but without consuming anything. A good strategy is to wait for the power-up to wear off, but just before it's over, the player should use a nitro pellet. This allows him/her to have a constant very high speed for a longer time.
The dollar sign icon which gives 1000 dollars. After fully upgrading, the only advantage to take it is to maximize your total money amount.
After a set of four races, Top Gear 2 gives the player a password. It allows the player to finish the game in more than one sitting.
TOP GEAR 2 PLAYTHROUGH
The USA version is used for this run. The goal is to finish all 64 races in first position at the highest difficulty level and upgrade as early as possible. Collecting the different power ups is also a priority. Collision is avoided when possible.
