This was the death of a thousand cuts.

This was the furthest I've been in the game and, with permadeath enabled, it's always nervewracking when playing in undiscovered country against foes with indeterminate abilities. Still, I more or less knew what the scenario would be because Torchlight II's boss battle setpieces tend to be fairly predictable at this point: start the player in an enclosed place; have the boss make a grand entrance; put the player under constant pressure with summoned minions.

I was relatively happy with this Outlander build but survival in Hardcore Elite Mode frequently hinges upon having the right gear to complement a build and this protracted boss battle demonstrates the importance of HP recovery gear. That gear comes in either passive (e.g. HP regenerating gear) or active (e.g. HP-stealing weapons) forms.

I ran out of health and rejuvenation potions 15 minutes into this 18-minute battle and the vampiric wand I desperately switched to proved inadequate.
