Abusing Release is not good.

Touhou 16 has a unique equipment: Sub-Seasons, and you can perform a Season Release by pressing the Release Button (C) if you have 1 or more Sub-Season option equipped. In general, bullets that come into the Release range will convert into green point items, which increase the base value of point item, and your attacks are more powerful during release for Winter Sub-Season particularly.

If you press C when you stay close to the boss and she starts to shoot bullets, your Release will erase all the bullets, makes you easier to beat the boss. Using it repeatedly can increase your score massively plus clear a stage much faster (This is why abusing release is not good).

I don't know why, but stage 5 is being harder than stage 6 (Touhou 12, 14, 15 and now 16 (without Release)).

By the way, Aunn's second spellcards (the curvy lasers one) has a safespot: you stay at the bottom of the screen right under Aunn, the lasers and bullets will almost never touch you :).
