Touhou 20 東方錦上京 ~ Fossilized Wonders (Demo) - Lunatic 1CC (No-Miss, No-Bomb)
The new Touhou 20 demo came out.
I have good feelings with this one, it's probably the best Touhou game released in the last decade.
Though of course it's hard to tell on just day 1. But stages seem cool and your main shot doesn't seem to suck as much anymore like in the other recent games, which is all I really asked for.
The game seems a bit like a celebration of the series, with many abilities in this referencing past games.
The game has been commonly described so far as Hollow Song of Birds combined with Undefined Fantastic Object.
There are abilities you choose at the start combined with UFO-like enemies that show up and attack you but work otherwise the same.
Hypers make a return and are unavoidable now, to the chagrin of many a survival player.
There is also enemy chaining, so it's almost like you're playing DOJ if you squint hard enough.
There are an insane amount of shot and ability combinations.
There are four main categories: a hyper category, a focus shot category, a unfocus shot category and a support category.
Each category has 8 different abilities to choose from, and Reimu and Marisa get some unique abilities. So in total that's about 5,376 different shot combinations. Are all of those balanced? Who knows. Probably not.
My loadout for this run:
Main Story Stone - Imperishable Moon: PCB-like border that reflect bullets during the hyper.
Narrow Shot Stone - Shintoism Wind: Suwako frog shot.
Wide Shot Stone - Imperishable Moon: Options reflect bullets that come in contact with it.
Assist Stone - Scarlet Devil: Focus shot damage up.
The frog shot puts your options close around you, combined with the hyper that cancels bullets with your options, it makes for an almost perfect shield. The hyper also works like the PCB border where you can break it and refill most of it with the bullet cancel. A little broken maybe.
In general this game is also VERY HARD.
Crazy earlygame bullet patterns that would make LoLK blush.
I guess ZUN really wants you to use all the mechanics of the game this time.
I'm not sure how I feel about the wonder stone UFO's just being able to randomly appear during boss fights, I feel like they could really screw you over in not fun ways. These also have waaaaay too much health.
Marisa is finally good again.
From what I can tell most of Marisa's abilities are better than Reimu's.
Power loss is still brutal in this.
You lose an entire power level from a death and power items are very scarce, it seems even worse than UM.

Scoring is broken because the PIV overflows around 40, resulting in every point item only giving you 10 points from that point.
I'm sure these will be fixed though.
