Touhou 20: Fossilized Wonders Lunatic 1cc (Reimu R2R2G1G1)
3After going through normal (or hard) with every base shot, I finally felt like I had a good enough understanding of what I liked about various FW shots to try to synthesize My Ideal Shot. I'm not sure this is it as there are a couple glaring weakness, but I had a lot of fun with this run!
I picked Reimu over Marisa because she can shoot while bombing.
Main stone: I wanted to avoid Y2 for being too cheesy and ignoring large parts of the game. Y1 and B2 felt somewhat similar, albeit weaker. G2 would have been situationally useful but I didn't want to face green Stage 4, so G1 was out too (I'm not sure how much it would have come up!). That left the damage increasing hypers - B1 eliminates target selection, R1 is big single target damage, and R2 is shotgun/spread. R2 takes the easy win as best-in-class, when ignoring bullet cancels.
Shot stones: I wanted damage and the ability to hit multiple places at once. G1 focused was an obvious choice from that, and R2 unfocused was about the best range I could manage with Reimu. B1 unfocused might have been a better choice in hindsight for homing, though, or G2.
Assist stone: Pretty margin but I wanted either R2 or G1 to cycle hypers/pyramids faster. Honestly I went with G1 not because i though it would be better, but because I thought it would be funny to alternate stones.
As for the run, I took a few Stage 1 first half resets before getting a run going, and this was that run. Quite happy with a quick clear like this before I could start overthinking either the stone setup or stage routes and what sections need bombs... lunatic Stages 5 and 6 are something else.
If you want to know my Marisa preferences, it's Y1G2Y1G2 right now. Y2G1R1R2? for when I decide to go for no miss... scary thoughts ahead, this endgame is pretty brutal and Marisa's bomb doesn't help...
