...FUCK, THIS WAS A JOURNEY IN OF ITSELF.
This is the one ExNN where I'll even be advertising Full Spell in the title of the video, predominantly because of Mokou's Last Spell, Imperishable Shooting. So many wild things happened while I was trying to get this run, and overall I'd say Mokou is hands down the most difficult ExNN I've done as of writing this description. This is also keeping in mind I also only have three ExNN's remaining - those being Raiko, Hecatia, and Saki.
So, the big thing. Unfortunately, during my attempts of Mokou Perfect, I tragically lost my save data for IN during a terrible crash which occurred out of nowhere. I thought I had a backup to save the data, but the backup itself got corrupted due to the crash, so I was shit out of luck there. That's why my Spell histories are much lower in this video than you'd expect. Thankfully, none of my replays were lost (as you can see in the video), and with the help of an online score file that had everything already unlocked, I was pretty much able to salvage everything minus my playtime data, Spell Card histories, and a few other things that I'll be able to sleep at night without. Best believe I backed the hell up out of everything after this, so trust me when I say that it will not happen ever again.
Another unfortunate oddity; I had a run where I had a Perfect NMNBFS pace up until Imperishable Shooting. And lo and behold, during the final two seconds at the final phase, I choked and crashed right into an arrowhead bullet. I was so upset about that...AUGH!
Anyway, let's actually move onward to the Extra itself. I think it's a great deal of fun, featuring what has to be one of the best stage themes in Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim, incredible challenge, and some really fun segments to boot. Stage isn't the worst, especially thanks to the safespot for the fairy at the end - which is actually more consistent than it looked, to my surprise. Keine herself isn't the worst either, as her only real problem for me historically (no pun intended) has been Next History, which I found a really consistent strat for in practice. As you see in the video, I heavily stream for a short while before switching to tap-streaming, which makes her final all the easier.
But nah, what you really want to hear about is Mokou! And what a strange fight she is. Mokou's earlier phases are honestly not that hard with sufficient routing, but in return she gets some of the most despicable killers I've ever seen an Ex Boss have.
Mokou's nonspells...are an absolute horror story. They trump basically every other Ex Boss's in terms of density, speed, and overall difficulty - even on par with Hecatia at times. The first four aren't too bad, 5th is pretty rough, 6th and 7th are actually really hard to read, they're no slouch as is.
...But I cannot possibly understate the difficulty of Mokou Nonspell #8, commonly referred to by the Touhou community as "The Rings of Death." It is, of course, named this for a reason. With unspeakably dense rings and a projectile speed which would give Lightning McQueen a run for his money, it has gone down in history as what I believe to be one of the hardest patterns in the entirety of Windows Touhou games. It doesn't last too terribly long, but believe me when I say that those rings will be the scariest twelve seconds of your entire life.
As for her Spell Cards, they're all fairly interesting and rather fun. Curse of Tsuki-no-Iwakasa is her opener, and once routed it becomes somewhat easy. Unfortunately, it's also not very difficult to fuck it up either, so exercise caution when handling this one.
Fire Bird - Flying Phoenix is super easy once you route it. It dies at the same part every time, so while it looks difficult at first, in practice it ends up being one of her most trivial cards.
Wounds of Metsuzai Temple is free as hell; just tap at the right times and you'll almost never die to this.
Xu Fu's Dimension is also really easy with streaming. I know some people like bottom-hugging because of an apparent "safespot," but I never found that strategy consistent so I don't like it personally.
Honest Man's Death is funny; moving toward the laser is the secret here. I would have designed this card differently, but in practice it's not that hard.
Hollow Giant follows a strict route; get it right and this one is fairly easy. Still fairly dense though, so watch your back.
The rest of the fight is hell from hereon out. You have to marathon Non #7, Phoenix's Tail, Rings of Death, Fujiyama Volcano, Possessed by Phoenix, Hourai Doll, and Imperishable Shooting all in one take. Hourai Doll is your only freebie here, so cherish it while it lasts and lead the way.
...Go, Black Hearted Soul! ^o^
