Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night Lunatic (Illusionary Barrier Team, Final B)
Half a lifetime ago, I encountered Imperishable Night for the first time. In my younger years, I'd played some STGs here and there, and really enjoyed them (though I was obviously terrible at them). Imperishable Night was the first danmaku game I played, and it's what really enflamed my interest in this niche and savage genre. I messed around with the game for quite some time, but never managed to get a clear of any mode. Over the years, I always ended up coming back to the game and have always been entranced anew by it. So, what better way to start of 2024 than coming back and finally conquering Lunatic?
Overall, this was a pretty good run for me. Had a solid stages 1-3, despite getting clipped on First Pyramid, meaning I was sitting pretty for the stage 4 resource tax. Even though I've been playing this game off and on for like 15 years now, I still cannot dodge Marisa's non-spells, and don't think I've ever once captured Asteroid Belt. Stage 5 was kinda crap, but I had decent enough bosses that it averaged out to be good enough. I decided to go for Final B for this clear, because I figured I may as well conquer the true ending if I'm doing this. This ended up being a bit problematic since I couldn't actually _practice_ 6B without beating it, so I just had to do my best with grinding Kaguya's spell cards. But in the end, it was enough, and I cleared with a couple lives to spare. I even no-miss no-bombed Hourai Jewel at the end, and managed to capture Rising World (literally the only Last Spell I captured this run).
And goddamn, half a lifetime later, I still love this game! Is this the start of a new BlanderSTG arc where I explore all the other Touhou games and try to complete them on Lunatic? Or will the allure of giant mechanical space fish prove too compelling? Find out next time, on BlanderSTG!
