Because the only thing that team Loli needed was a creepy fairy clown. Anyway, one of the things I did when I got away from Touhou music was to expand my taste in other metal genres. One of the genres I experimented was the so called "djent". This genre is the latest re invention of heavy metal, and one could argue it has made heavy music relevant again. Describing its sound with words it's really hard (I always say it's like if progressive metal decided to have a fling with metalcore), so what better example to give than this song.

The origins of "Djent" traces back to a band called Messugah, where the complex time signatures and extremely low tunning became a staple of the band. However, I've often seen interviews when this band has confessed they don't want to be involved in this classification. Two of the leaders of this whole trend are Animals as Leaders and Periphery (the first being an instrumental project and the second having vocals). If you are in for some genre expansion, I recommend you check out the bands I have mentioned in this description. Personally, I love Periphery because it achieves a balance between heavy and melodic. The first album (a self titled album) seems to fall more in the heavy side, while the second (Periphery II) has more melodic elements. I like both of them, but I think the second is an absolute masterpiece (there is a third one, but it's a conceptual album and only God knows how much I hate them). Check it out if you will, if you are a fan of Final Fantasy music and chunky riffs, I'm sure you will find some joy out of it.
Touhou and "djent" aren't so distant. Most of the metal arrangers so far have taken a piece of that cake. Demetori has a full "djent" album (actually, they ripped off one Periphery song) and CROW'SCLAW has took a jab or two to this genre. Without a doubt, warinside from Blankfield is the king of "djent" and Touhou. All his releases are "djent" and they are top notch. Seriously, the production he handles is equally as good as CROWSCLAW or Demetori. The only reason he isn't that popular is because the genre is a "love it or hate it" kind of sound.

"The Pierrot of the Star-Spangled Banner" definitely takes the cake of the music in Touhou 15. It is amazing how ZUN keeps reinventing it's music and how much he has evolved as a musician on the last couple of years. This song in particular joins the ranks of "U.N. Owen was her?" and "Heian Alien", where delicious chromatic goodness provokes this creepy feeling we all love. I bet it is going to be arranged by everyone in the metal Touhou community. Touhou 15 offers some good music, but nothing comes close to what was achieved with Touhou 14. But more of that in the next video.
