For those who have been long time subscribers know that I ran a strict quality control on what I upload to the channel. You can notice the (almost) absence of metal with vocals, and arranges made with synthethizers as well (however, the first song I ever uploaded is made with synths). This is because the quality of musicianship and production always disappoint me in those two cases. Things that haven't done so, have been eventually uploaded. And that is one negative aspect of having top tier musicians working on Touhou music (CROW'SCLAW and Demetori for instance). You end up getting used to premium content, and when a "not so well" produced song comes along, is easy misjudge it and scrap it. UI-70, South of Heaven, Magnus Opus, Electric Red are some of the circles that I have the most difficult time to review, since I have to lower the bar and try to enjoy the stuff "as they are". One more circle I can add to this list is Lazy Sound Life (I think it was previously know as "JaonLife"). In case you don't remember, Onocha (Lazy Sound Life sole member) delighted us with a wonderful Heian Angel arrange (#144), which was part of his first Touhou album. However, as much as I like his style, I always feel it lacks that "punch" that I find in other circles. Like I said, it is not musicianship or talent (Onocha's riffs are something to note), but rather a thing with production. It is not something I am going to criticise since I understand that not everyone has the money or the opportunity to record in a top of the line studio, but that has made me wonder how this efforts would sound with a crystal clear production. Still, Onocha has reminded me that there are many talented arrangers out there that is worth to listen and take the music as it is. Still, I hope one day he has the means to make a top tier album (production wise).
