A video showing the gameplay of Touhou Multi Scroll Shooting 2, ending with a short review. Touhou MSS2 is a newly released side scrolling, top down and 3d bullet storm (danmaku) shooter game on Steam. It challenges you to evade overwhelming barrages of bullets whilst simultaneously shooting back at your opponents. You will see my first impressions of the game, having never played it before.

This game is a derivative work of the Touhou series, featuring many of its characters as the basis for the game. There is no storyline to speak of here, the game instead consists only of a series of set-piece stages and accompanying boss fights. It's somewhat disappointing but the main draw of Danmaku games such as this are the complex bullet patterns and elaborate boss fights, so don't let the lack of story detract from the gameplay too much!

Touhou MSS2 varies up gameplay by making using of a traditional top down view, and switching mid battle into a side scrolling format. Sometimes a third viewpoint, essentially a 3rd person camera, is used too. These alternate gameplay styles allow for a wide range of attacks that each play off the limitations of the current view-mode. It opens a lot of room for creativity, but will Touhou Multi Scroll Shooting 2 take advantage of it? There's only one way to find out...
