Touhou SSS: Proof Marisa's DPS is nerfed on some attacks/Shot DPS Test
The reason I claim its "nerfed" is because there is, as far as I know, absolutely NO other explanation as to why this is happening. Marisa is supposed to be the shot with the highest DPS, and she is, in fact, usually the one that deals the most damage. Except on certain attacks, where she suddenly deals less DPS for no apparent reason...
The "Test" is simple: All characters vs Kage's opener. 4 Power, no Red Borders. Who can bring her down the fastest? Well, asumming one is playing optimally, as in, staying under the boss all the time or at least as much as possible (unless you are Koishi who can shotgun, but thats a special case), that should be Marisa, right?...
Under normal Circumstances, yes. However as you can see, that's not the case here. Kage's opener is one of the easiest places to see this "nerf" in action. Its blatantly obvious if you compare Marisa's performance to the others, there is something wrong going on here...
The Test itself was done as accurately as I possibly could; for both Sanae and Team Reimu, I barely missed any damage so their times should be pretty accurate. For Koishi, well, her DPS depends a lot on whenever you can shotgun or not. Unafortunaly thats not a real possibility in this attack, so I did as good as I possibly could with what I had...
And as for Marisa, you could argue I missed a bit of damage potential because I wasnt hitting Kage 100% of the time, but here's some points:
1) It hardly would have made a difference to the main point of the video
2) You cant expect someone to have perfect RNG/Movement control to reliably hit the boss 100% of the time with the range Marisa has...
3) Hitting the boss in the dead center requieres you to be pretty much glued to the middle "e" in the "Enemy" Mark. The entire attack. Thats REAL HARD, cut me some slack, I did it with as much accuracy as I could ok?
Other than that, this doubles as a general Shot DPS test of sorts I guess.
* Koishi DPS is variable. Long story short, IF she can shotgun an attack for a good amount of time, she has the highest DPS in the game, otherwise she has the lowest.
* Sanae has sligthly better DPS than Team Reimu. The difference is minimal, but its there and its enough for it to be noticeable if you switch between these 2 shots.
* When Marisa is NOT being nerfed like on this video's attack, she has the highest DPS in the game. Unless you are able to shotgun it for a long enough time, in which case Koishi might take the lead. If Marisa is nerfed AND you cant shotgun it, Sanae will have the highest DPS for it. As far as I know, there is never a situation in which Team Reimu can have the highest DPS...
Oh and as to WHY Marisa is randomly nerfed like this on a couple of attacks... I have no clue. My theory was that they made it like this so that Marisa cant just speedkill attacks and end them TOO fast before they are any/barely any threat. I think that could apply to Rika's Border Spell, since all characters have to face it, and for example a non-nerfed Marisa could kill it before the 2nd "Phase" starts. But I am not sure if that's right, because they also applied the nerf to Kage's opener, and... there's no real reason to put it here. Its not like the attack gets THAT hard either...Regardless, I think this is a stupid way of balancing and its pretty dirty. Its basically cheating Marisa/The player by temporally making it artificially harder to end attacks, when Marisa's ENTIRE deal is that she has ridiculously bad range in exchange for the highest consistent DPS...except when not because screw you that's why. Like I am not even a Marisa fan and I am mad, lol.
