Toy Fighter is a 3D fighting game in the same vein as Virtua Fighter and is a pseudo-sequel to the Fighters Destiny series. It was developed for the SEGA Naomi arcade system by Anchor, lead by Fighters Destiny designer Masahiro Onoguchi, and released exclusively in Japan. The game does not use a traditional round system, instead opting for a life-point system with each player starting with five life-points. Dropping a player's lifebar to zero takes away one life-point, successfully throwing opponents install-kills and takes two life-points, and Bomber moves takes three life-points.
Toy Fighter is a 3 button game that borrows heavily from the Fighter Destiny suite of mechanics. You have standard Punch and Kick buttons, but your third buttons is Dodge, which allows you to automatically evade normal strikes when held down. To combat this, some strikes will have colored effects that cannot be Dodged and if thrown while Dodging you will suffer a smaller throw tech window. Like in Fighters Destiny, throws have a visual throw tech bar and some throws can be reversed with proper timing. With a myriad of interesting mechanics like the catch parry Atemi system or the use of the Battle Circle ring that surrounds the players, Toy Fighter is a easy to pick up game with loads of depth that makes it more serious than its strange premise may give off.
