This year, players can "Expect the Unexpected" with a key new feature: the introduction of toggleable random events and train faults to ensure no two services ever feel the same. From signal delays to speed restrictions, players must stay alert to overcome unpredictable challenges. The game will guide players through resolving these unpredictable events, to get back under way and on to their destinations.

Continuing the "unexpected" theme are new routes and trains for the series. In the USA, it’s off to the east coast with NJ Transit through the New Jersey suburbs in both ageing and modern traction. UK players can experience the thrill of coastal running along the Riviera Line, often described as one of the most beautiful stretches of railway in Britain. This route also marks the long-awaited return of the GWR brand to the series. In Europe, players can drive beyond the horizon between Dresden and Leipzig, Europe’s largest railway station, with a full variety of freight, passenger, high-speed and shunting services available.
