Train Simulator 2019: How to Annoy The Purists (7) A Danish Train in Devon
If this doesn't set the purists off, I don't know what will.
Anyway, today's Train Simulator video is a short-ish run on the Riviera Line - Exeter to Paignton route, going from Newton Abbot to Paignton. Our traction for this run is an IC3 class DMU. These are 3-car diesel trains that operate intercity services in Denmark. They were built by ABB Scandia between 1989 and 2001. The first units entered service in 1990, and they weren't just built for service in Denmark:
92 for Danish State Railways (3-car sets)
26 for Renfe in Spain (2-car sets)
41 for Israel
13 units were originally built for service in Sweden. 9 of them were later sold to Israel, while the other 4 were sent to Denmark.
In addition to the original 3-car IC3 sets, there have since been three other designs built, which are based on the IC3. These are the IC2, IR4 and X31K. The IC2 differs from the normal IC3 in that it is a two-car unit (as opposed to the IC3's 3-car formation). Curiously the cab at one end of the IC2 is the same as on the IC3, while - at the other end - there is a streamlined cab. The IC2 and IC3 are diesel units, while the IR4 and X31K are electric. IR4's have the same bodyshell as the IC3, but the former is a 4-car set. The X31K has the same type of cab - and therefore front end - as the IC3, but the X31K has a noticeably different bodyshell. It's a bit difficult to explain, so I suggest you go and look at pictures of the real units. While the IC2, IC3 and IR4 units are only used on regional services in Denmark, the X31K's are used on Denmark-Sweden services, which use the Oresund Bridge. Actually, X31K is the train's Swedish classification. In Denmark they are called the ET class, but - for some reason - I prefer to call them X31K's.
