Train Simulator 2019: Phorum Peninsula (3) An Intro To: NG Tourism
Each episode in this series is named after the scenario I played in the video. An Intro To: NG Tourism is a scenario which came with the route, although I swapped out the default engines and coaches with Ffestiniog Railway stock.
For episodes 3 and 4 of the mini-series, I decided to have a look at the two different narrow-gauge railways on the Phorum Peninsula route. I talk about each of them in the description of Episode 1 - High Season Steamer.
In this video, I decided to drive on the narrow-gauge tourist line, which runs from the old Phorum pier at St. Bilton to Grays Point, the latter of which being the furthest south that any railway goes on the island. The locomotive for this run is the Ffestiniog Railway's Taliesin, an 0-4-4 single-fairlie. Along the way, we get pop-ups telling us about a few landmarks on the line.
I believe Taliesin is one of only two single-fairlie engines left in the world, the other one being New Zealand Railways R class No. 28, which you can find in the town of Reefton. R 28 was actually the only remaining single-fairlie until Taliesin was built in 1999. I suggest you consult the internet for further information about R 28 and Taliesin.
