'A' Squadron, of the 9th 12th Royal Lancers in Germany is among the last group of soldiers to leave for Op Herrick 14 in Afghanistan. They will join the rest of 7th Armoured Brigade and 3 Commando Brigade on operations in the middle of April. Before they pack their kit, the Lancers are keen to maintain the skills and drills they learned in January. A Squadron is spending the next month refreshing their training in an exercise designed to test their soldiering and communication skills. Much of this refresher training is designed to help the soldiers engage with Afghanistan locals in meetings or 'shuras'.
