The number of RAF aircraft close to Libya has been increasing, with a further four Tornado aircraft joining the 10 Typhoons and 4 Tornado GR4's already at Gioia del Colle in southern Italy. They took off from RAF Marham in Norfolk and flew a reconnaissance flight over Libya on Tuesday afternoon. No weapons were fired during that mission. Their presence takes the total RAF strength in Southern Italy to 18 aircraft. Typhoons have recently returned to base at Italy as there was no Libyan activity against them. The crew believe that they have successfully negated their air threat and surface missile threat.
