Survival mode on rage mode difficulty is unreasonably hard. Think of how rage mode is unfair and punishing, but at least it has frequent checkpoints, then remove all the checkpoints for a ~45 minute run. I generally don't recommend doing this, and thought Expert survival mode was much better balanced though still really hard - while clearing Survival Mode on Expert took me about 34 hours, this took me about 100 hours on top of that. If an enemy has direct line of sight, and you're not in slo mo or invisibility or at least spamming slide, you just die. Snipers and shotguns will one shot from full HP/armor, but any enemy really can end you faster than you can react if they just tag you with two bullets quickly. That said, this was the most fun I had with the game, once you get to the mid sections of a run and you're forced to adapt to killing different enemies with different guns on different maps and FAST so you don't starve, it starts to feel like running and gunning in call of duty or something.

My general gameplan was to kill as many enemies as possible at the beginning of a wave, ideally with weapons that get me food from challenges but if not with whatever combination of grenades/guns got to the magic 4 enemies remaining as fast as possible. This is the most important factor to not die - once you hit 4 remaining, seeing red dots showing where enemies are through walls eliminates all the surprise deaths and just leaves the deaths where you messed something up. So you can get to this much safer state quicker, you want a map with concentrated spawn points where you can spawncamp multiple spawns, but ideally with some cover you can retreat to especially in the case of heavies. I avoid maps where enemies spawn everywhere if possible, but if I had to take one, focused on clearing a safe defensible section of the map before I hunted for enemies. Never pick a map that has spawns everywhere and large open spaces and an enemy faction with snipers, I guarantee that you will die. Since heavy enemies can't be staggered by fire, and only by one explosion from their back gas tank, they're a huge factor in choosing what enemies to face and can rule out picking smaller maps where you'll run out of room against them.

I want to shout out this other video from ‪@All_Mighty672‬, I pulled a lot of techniques from their gameplay and thorough annotations, they went above and beyond just clearing survival mode by also going for all weapon challenges and never bought allies (which I think make the run a lot easier):

You'll notice I edited the map choice screens for time as well as adding my thoughts on each map, if you'd like an unedited single segment video I've uploaded that unlisted here:
