Welcome to The Selcouth Mind! Today we explore the word for an unusual fear: fear of the number 13! A.K.A. triskaidekaphobia!

The number 13 is considered unlucky in most of the Western world and is often used in books and movies to symbolize bad luck or impending doom. Friday the 13th is considered an especially unlucky day. In Asia, 4 is the unlucky number.

While triskaidekaphobia is usually considered a superstition, it is also classified as a mental disorder in the DSM and some people receive therapy for it.
