Troops to return from Germany 10.11.11
The start of drawdown of British Troops from Germany has been confirmed today. The Ministry of Defence has told about eighteen hundred soldiers that they will be moving to bases in the UK over the next few years, starting in January. Last year's Defence Review set a target of bringing half of Britain's 20-thousand soldiers back from Germany by 2015, with the remainder by 2020. For families in Germany, today's news is not so surprising. If anything, most people were expecting many more troops to leave before 2015. In Cyprus soldiers from 2 Royal Anglian, the poachers are pleased at the prospect of returning to the Regiment's roots in the east of England. Meanwhile in Cottesmore, after months of uncertainty, the news has come as a relief. Major General Nick Pope, spokesman for the Chief of the Defence Staff explained what practical support will be available to those re-basing.
