Helmand's Nad-e Ali district could be one of the next places to be handed over to full Afghan security control.

This week, President Karzai is expected to announce the list of areas considered stable enough to be transferred to his country's security forces.

There has been an 86 per cent drop in violence in Nad-e Ali since 2010.

To date, 38 members of the British military have lost their lives there.
