I think in principle, telling people to maybe think about whether or not exposition works in a scene is good advice. "Show don't tell" as either a rule or guideline however, doesn't make for good writing advice. A good book isn't a check list of "follow these rules and get a good book." It's about context and understanding of how to use the tools available to you.
