Hey Guys,
Since i have the feeling that not a lot of people know how to create a bump map for Source Film maker
i will be teaching u how to do it
There are 3 programs that need to be installed to create a bump map,
Paint.net or any other image editing software,
VTF Edit
and of course Source Filmmaker
1st You will have to search up a texture or material which we are going to turn into a bump map
In terms of searching up a texture you should think about what the model is or would be made of in real life which you are going to add the bumpmap to
2ndly you´ll have to download the texture and in some cases the texture file is not quadratic as you see here, so we have to make it a square a in any image editing software (i will be using paint.net for this)
Turning this into a square is very easy, you just have to edit the resolution of the texture.
Ok,now to 3rd step,
you will have to go on a site named Normalmap Online. This site turns the image into a bumpmap.
So just ignore these popups and then click on "batchmode" to upload your image. then u can adjust the Strength, the level and the blur of the bumpmap. You can see the 3d result in this preview window. Just play aroung with the settings until you think it looks good.
Download it when you are done with that.
4th step,
we will now turn this into a vtf file so we can use it in Source Filmmaker.
Open V T F Edit and click on File, Import, and select your image. Now you have to click on File, Save as, what i usually do is to safe the bumpmaps in the models file. For that you have to go into "This Pc, Windows C, Programms86, steam, steamapps, common, sourcefilmmaker, game, work shop, materials, models, thats where you save it.
5th and last step,
open sfm,
create a session and load in a map,
load in a model,
right click the model in the animation set editor and click on "add overwrite materials"
right click it again and click "show in element viewer" and click on model, open the material which u want add a bumpmap onto, right click it "add attribute" string and type in $bumpmap, then click in this box and select the path and the vtf file of your bumpmap.
You see, you now added a bumpmap to the model.
I hope this tutorial helped you, if so feek free to like and subscribe or post a comment below.
