A quick tutorial on how to make a let's play type video using entirely free software. The software I'm using and the links to download are as follows:

Hypercam 2
http://download.cnet.com/HyperCam/3000-13633_4-10004511.html

Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows

Virtual Dub
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

Xvid codec

The method I use involves recording my commentary on a separate audio file to the recording of the game's video and audio. This allows for complete control over the audio balancing, so that neither the voice or the game audio drowns out the other.

There won't be any effects, titles or transitions covered in this video. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible and just cover the basics. Hope you find it useful.

Background music in this video is "Fluidscape" by Kevin MacLeod (www.incompetech.com). Licensed under Creative Commons "Attribution 3.0" http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
