Twisted frickin cycle path - Overflow! Insanity souls! (WillPending 04/15/2022)
In today's record of Overflow we check out another of a handful of wonderful Dark souls inspired games! Soulslikes can be pretty hit or miss, and when you add that to Itch's already hit or miss nature you get a pretty wacky variance in quality! Insanity souls is really hard for me to judge because unlike most of the games I played in the night, the developer seems to actually care about this one. There are some fairly easy things to poke fun at - The grungy edgy character design, the reliance on schizophrenia as a narrative element, the rather forcefully inserted "soulslike" nature of the game. That last one I hardly believe myself though. The dev self described it as such, but there's nothing really soulsier than what you'd find in a resident evil game. The combat was clunky, the performance wasn't great, and the way it ended was rather unfortunate... All this being said though, I'm sure the dev learned plenty over the course of creating this and I hope they continue to create in the future!
Overflow is a regular segment I run on my stream where I play a large sampling of various indie games all at once! I try to remain respectful, but my first priority is making sure I'm being entertaining which can sometimes potentially come across as demeaning towards the games I'm playing. To make it clear - Games are hard to make. I have also publicly released multiple games of my own. I never want to discourage or demoralize upcoming developers in any way. I enjoy playing rough, unpolished, amateurish games! If I'm ever giving real negative criticism of something, it's because I enjoy it enough or see enough potential in it to want the developer to flourish in the future. Everything else is played for laughs, so try not to take anything too personally!
A girl apparently alone with her parents at home, but something strange happens to her parents, Abigail has schizophrenia and sometimes doubts if what she feels within her environment is real, but one day someone comes and the nightmares will become real.

This video was streamed live on my Twitch channel. I play a variety of mostly indie games, but in general don't like sitting in the same spot for too long, so things get mixed up pretty frequently. I try to put a focus on the conversation and banter of the stream, so hopefully that's something you find entertaining regardless of what I'm using as a backdrop!
