Updated Version 4.0926347 https://devpost.com/software/ufo-uap-sightings-database-and-reporting-system?ref_content=user-portfolio&ref_feature=in_progress
π‘ Inspiration
Since the recent trends and uproar surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), which have attracted a lot of attention from social media, news, and 1st-3rd world countries especially in the United States of America government and congress, and all over the world. The USA even made a UAP disclosure amendment in the United States of America democratic senate https://tinyurl.com/252yh44m and the Congress holds hearing about claims US government has UFO evidence. https://tinyurl.com/txhjhdtu
There are many companies that are interested in UFO/UAP research. Some of these companies include NASA, which recently announced that it will form a team dedicated to studying UFOs/UAPs, and the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI), which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the scientific study of extraterrestrial intelligence.
There are also many private companies that are interested in UFO/UAP research, such as Bigelow Aerospace, which is a space technology company that has been involved in UFO/UAP research for many years.
π» What it does
Our web app deployed in Vercel, collects reports of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) sightings to our TIDB cloud serverless cluster and generates a realistic image of the unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) with the help of SDXL 0.9, short for Stable Diffusion XL. We got (Home page), which is the introduction and technology used in our web app, (Add Sighting page) you are able to report your personal sightings, (All Sighting page) collected 2023 data with NUFORC) National UFO Reporting Center, (MUFON) Mutual UFO Network, (NICAP) National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, UFODNA, Project BLUEBOOK, (NIDS) National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), CANADAGOV, nationalarchives.gov, US National Intelligence office, etc., uploaded in TiDB Cloud Serverless, and (All Sightings Beta Page) which gives more comprehensive information about ufo/uap sightings. (All Sightings Hatch) which gives detailed information about Larry Hatch UFO/UAP database contained over 18,000 case files around the world. (News Page) which give you the latest news about UFO/UAP around the world. (Map Page) that shows you a 3d globe, it even includes descriptions and Google Maps links. And (AI Background page) that would be able to generate and download your realistic images with SDXL 0.9, short for Stable Diffusion XL. Our MVP web app has 1k data reports and sightings available while TiDB Cloud Serverless Cluster has 521,655 lines of Comma Separated Values (CSV) files uploaded.
βοΈ How we built it
The database was built using TiDB Cloud Serverless Tier, TIDB version v6.6.0, Cloud Provider AWS, Region Frankfurt(eu-central-1), which is an advanced, open-source, distributed SQL database with MySQL, Rails, Python, JBDC, Go, and Node.js, etc. compatibility. We use this TIDB database to build a web application with Vercel that allows users to report sightings of UFO/UAPs and view its image with Bing AI Image Generator and Dall-E 2. Our web application is developed and programmed with Vercel, NPM, Node.js, JavaScript, CSS, and Next JS. The artificial image generation we used is SDXL 0.9, short for Stable Diffusion XL.
π§ Challenges we ran into
Searching for the best sightings data to accommodate our needs.
Contacting agencies like (NUFORC) National UFO Reporting Center, (MUFON) Mutual UFO Network, (NICAP) National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, nationalarchives.gov, and US National Intelligence Office for the data.
Handling a vast amount of data from over 2,000,0000 lines of Comma Separated Values (CSV) codes collected from various legitimate sources.
Limited resources and time
π
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning SQL and MySQL
Learning how to use TiDB Cloud serverless
Learning how to deploy web-app in Vercel
Completing the project on time and with limited resources
Collecting over 2,000,000 lines of Comma Separated Values (CSV) codes UFO/UAP reports
π What we learned
Building a full-stack website application
How to integrate TIDB cloud serverless cluster
Integrating SDXL 0.9, short for Stable Diffusion XL, TiDB Cloud Serverless, and Vercel without any prior experience.
π What's Next for UFO/UAP Sightings Database and Reporting System
Investing in our database infrastructure to ensure that it can support our growing needs.
Increase website security by implementing a user authentication system.
Using Amazon s3 bucket in the future to upload additional 1,150,000 lines of .csv 1GB recent 2023 data report and sightings
A search function that allows users to filter sightings based on various criteria.
Using more advance configuration for higher-quality image generation from Stable-Diffusion
Users image and video upload
