The race for more graphics really stepped up a gear in 2004 and FarCry led the charge. Our PC at the time couldn't even run it, requiring an upgrade and even then it wasn't in a resolution higher than 800x600. The reason it has endured is because there's a decent game underneath the visual sheen as it gave the player complete freedom to experiment with different ways of playing
