Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a game that left its mark on fighters, but its story shows that it came out at a rather unusual time in history.

While Capcom was successfully re-signing a deal with Marvel to re-release Marvel vs. Capcom 2 digitally, rumors swirled that a new version of the versus series was imminent.

The regular version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was released in February 2011 to considerable success, but with some criticism for having little content and featuring a system very similar to that of 2008's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but the promise of more updates was kept.
