A video of me hastily blasting my way through UFO extra stage, DANMAKU BY DANMAKU.
UFO, short of Undefined Fantastic Object, is the 12th installment of the Touhou Project, a series of danmaku shooter make by a god we like to simply call ZUN. If you're going to offer him a gift, I suggest alcohol.
This is both the hardest and most amazing extra stage in the series. Period.
The hardest because the patterns are pretty random and fast, quickly overwhelming you if you don't do something quick. And amazing precisely because of that, because you MUST do something to survive. If you have any hope of living, you must play smart, not mechanically. You can only memorize so much before you must rely on quick thinking and fast awareness of your surrounding. Oh, I'm sure a more skillful player will be able to do this: collect 4-5 lives and use no bombs, but those people are the exception.
When I said "hastily blasting my way," I meant it literally. Since things can get quickly out of control due to several factors, you must just as quickly make your move: Bomb strategically to activate a red UFO, destroy UFO not when you can, but when you need to clear the screen, form rainbow UFO in order to get one step closer to achieving the red one. The fact that this stage revolves around the idea of playing rather than just dodging make this stage one of my favorite and one of the most unique ones. I got frustrated a lot, yes, but I also had ton of fun. There's something about using a bombs to gain an advantage rather than just survive that makes things feel more fast-paced. And the fact that you play for more than just dodging add a unique dimension to the gameplay.
Is hard to explain what I'm talking about. I saw this stage played with SanaeB. I'm doing it with SanaeA and I must say, either I suck or SanaeB is easier due to stronger shot and wider range XD
Bottom line: Awesome extra stage, one of ZUN best in my opinion.
Sigh, I hope for the day I play to get high scores.
