I figure this problem is because I'm running it on better hardware than the game would expect so there's some sort of problem with running the fan suction at a reasonable level. I eventually had to resort to using fly.

If I was being a total retard and missed something that would slow down or disable the fan then feel free to tell me that I am stupid and missed an obvious thing.
