I like to call this part of the session the "Triad". Basically, what happens is that when we start, it's the usual three-way free-for-all, but once one of us dies, that player can decide to keep fighting or to sit it out until another one dies for the team-up.
When there are players that have a lower stock count compared to the lead, they gotta team up to take down the leader, because if they don't then their chances of winning wanes, then when everyone's stock count is the same, it becomes a free-for-all again.
Basically, the ones with lower stock counts can decide to either sit it out or team up with other lower stock counters. But, these rules are loosely followed much like the pirate's code. (Don't know what I mean? Watch the first Pirates of the Caribbean.)
Project M (or Project Melee) is a fan-made mod for Super Smash Bros. Brawl to have similar gameplay mechanics to Super Smash Bros. Melee.

The mod is 100% free. All you need is a 2GB SD card (specifically), a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a Wii/Wii U, and an old Wiimote controller before they came with the Wii Motion Plus built into them. You will need to delete all custom stages in both the Wii hard drive and SD card, because for hackless versions, it requires that function. Once you get into the Gecko OS screen, take your Wiimote and go to one of the options that has the "hook type" and switch it to AX-something-or-other because it might not work with the default. After that, save, load up the game, and enjoy!
