So, in my test, Opera for Linux works pretty well to play YouTube videos. No need to tweaks anything. It just works out of the box. Sadly, there are some websites where video doesn't play at all.
Instagram just shows me static image, Twitter says the media could not be played, Facebok tells sorry we're having trouble with playing this video on a blurred image, and YouTube Live complains your browser can't play this video message with an exclamation mark.
I've shared this workaround back in February actually. It's about 9 or 10 months ago. Maybe I didn't explain it well, so there's a crucial part I missed. So, I'm really sorry for that.
As stated earlier, installing chromium codecs ffmpeg extra is no longer work. You need correct libffmpeg to fix Opera Linux video problem. Mixing random version can breaks some web page with the following message :
"Page crashed. Unfortunately something caused this page to quit. It might have been an extensions conflict or some other reasons"
Also, an incompatible lib can make Opera won't open / launch. If you try to run the browser via Terminal, you will get an error, opera symbol lookup error opera undefined symbol av_stream_get_first_dts.
Here are some ways to find a compatible libffmpeg.so for Opera (you may need to extract it from a zip, tar.xz / gz / zst or deb file) :

If you're sure you got the right libffmpeg.so and it doesn't work, try a another next major version. There's been at least one case (Opera based on Chromium 81 need libffmpeg.so 83) where this worked.
Please keep in mind, you'll have to do this every time Opera updates to newer major Chromium. Wanna cry?. Firefox and other free open source browsers are there to lean on :p
Hope this video helps you to get rid of video playback issue on Opera browser.
