[UPDATED] The Atari 2600+ Experience, but With a Real 2600 and a CRT (+ Mr Run & Jump)
#atari2600 #crt #mrrun&jump
Usually, I'd be first in line to get a mini-console just to record a marathon of the included games. Well, this time I'm not even going to bother with the Atari 2600+. So I went with an even better option - the REAL DEAL!
I'm talking about playing the actual cartridges on real hardware! I'm playing the following games on a real Atari 2600:
Timestamp:
0:00:00 - Photosensitive Warning
0:01:37 - Breakout
--0:05:10 - a Christmas Egg
0:33:37 - Combat (with intermission)
0:45:55 - Dodge 'Em " " "
0:50:30 - Haunted House " " "
1:05:07 - Maze Craze " " "
1:10:56 - Missile Command " " "
1:15:05 - Realsports Volleyball " " "
1:22:50 - Surround " " "
---1:36:33 - a shameless plug
1:37:08 - Video Pinball (after-plug intermission)
1:42:26 - Yars' Revenge (with intermission)
--1:52:11 - swapping out joystick with CX30+ Paddle Controlle
1:52:23 - Canyon Bomber
1:59:53 - Night Driving
2:07:10 - Video Olympics
--2:16:39 - reconnecting the joystick controller
2:16:50 - Berzerk
2:26:46 - Adventure
2:54:03 - Mr. Run & Jump** (new Atari 2600 game)
--4:23:36 - A Warren Robinett Outro (not really)
You may notice that most of these games is included in the upcoming 10-In-One Games cartridge that's bundled with the Atari 2600+, as well as the games included in the 4-in-1 cartridge for the CX30+ Paddle Controller bundle.
Now, how was I able to record off of an Atari 2600, you may ask? With a VCR. In this marathon/longplay, you get to see all of these Atari 2600 in VHS format, upscaled to 2K resolution and placed within a frame that looks like an old CRT television set, for an authentic experience you won't want to miss!**

**Please note that for the Mr. Run & Jump game, I directly captured footage on a RetroTink 5X through the VCR instead of videotaping it. I also turned on HDR10 to make the game appear much brighter even on an SDR display. Other settings may vary from above. The results differ from the rest of the games, but I didn't even use scanlines nor masks, nor blur filters, so the authenticity isn't quite there like with the other games I recorded in this marathon. I'm sorry I didn't catch this earlier!
