Some of my family is going though some slides. Since our household is running Linux on 80% of all the machines (the odd old Mac here and there) It was time to find a decent scanner for scanning the Slides. The HP G4050 failed to turn on the backlight, but alas the Epson Perfection 3590 was "perfection". With the Opensource software provided by Epson i was able to get the scanner working to an extent. Still have a few bugs here and there but for now i thought i would share how to use the Epson software iScan to scan slides. Also there is a small bit using Gimp and Gwenview to manipulate the end scanned product.
