The Royal Navy's fleet of Viking vehicles is to be regenerated in a new 37 million pound contract with BAE systems.

The amphibious all-terrain vehicles will be fitted with the latest anti-mine protection, and 19 Vikings will also have top-mounted guns installed.

9 more will be adapted to allow the firing of a 81mm mortar from the vehicles.

Vikings are used extensively by the Royal Marines and were deployed to Afghanistan in 2006, but later replaced by Warthogs.
