Vampire the Masquerade: Swansong | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
115Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines is one of the best RPG's ever made with some very sloppy combat mechanics. For almost two decades fans of the game have wanted a sequel and over the past few months we have been getting a lot of games set in the Masquerade universe. Unfortunately most of those games are not what the fans wanted with many being visual novels, one being a battle royale and now we have a telltale inspired adventure game. Though Vampire the Masquerade Swansong promises to be the closest to a Bloodlines experiences compared to the other games that are out right now. In Swansong we take control of three different vampires who get caught up in a conflict with a new force known as the Second Inquisition. Through investigation, espionage and our cunning wits we hope to come out of this alive (get it?) and with out bodies intact. Though it was very cool for me personally to step back into the world of The Masquerade and hearing terms like Toreador, Sabbat, Sire and Final Death it misses a lot of the charm, humor and depth of the first game and its written characters. The biggest gripe I have with Swansong is that it's just kinda boring. Characters are often unmemorable and bland and the story also lacks excitement and feels sluggish. There are some tense moments here and there when you have a confrontation with someone and some of the crime scene investigations are pretty cool, but almost all the puzzles are really annoying and boring and many of the environments are also not that interesting. It's very strange to me with how many fans Vampire the Masquerade has gathered over the past few years that it seemingly is so difficult for developers to create a product that reminds us somewhat of that rough gem we had back in the mid 2000's. Luckily we will always have Bloodlines 1 to soothe us when we need it.
