It's not just offers stock GNOME experience on top of Ubuntu Linux based Point Release distribution. Here are some stuffs the developers and its contributors bring to the table.

#1 CHOICE
You can freely choose which package format to use e.g Flatpak / Snap / AppImage with a single click on Vanilla OS first-time setup after the installation. Pretty neat!.

#2 IMMUTABLE
Vanilla OS is an on-demand immutable distribution. The system is read only to prevent unwanted changes and corruption from third party applications or a faulty update.

You can temporarily make the system writable, make the changes you need and then return it to its original state. Don't worry some paths e.g Home are still writable to keep your files.

#3 APX
Apx is the default package manager in Vanilla OS. It installs packages inside a managed container by default but can be used to install packages in the host as well.

Vanilla OS is in Beta stage right now and plans to have a first stable release in November. So, we can expect 2 releases per year like you can upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to Ubuntu 22.10.

EDIT : Confirmed by Mirko, the stable release for Vanilla OS postponed to December. This month there will be an RC.
