"Vapor Trail: Hyper Offence Formation" is an action-packed shoot-'em-up developed by Data East for the Sega Mega Drive. Originally an arcade game released in 1989, this title was later ported to the Mega Drive, bringing its intense aerial combat to the home gaming platform. The Japanese version was published by Riot in August 1991, while the United States version was published by Renovation Products two months later.

Set in 1999, the game's story revolves around a terrorist group called DAGGER that has seized control of New York City and hacked into global military defenses, demanding global governance in exchange for not unleashing nuclear destruction upon the world. A Special Forces Air Unit is dispatched to combat DAGGER and dismantle its strongholds, aiming to save humanity from this threat.

The gameplay offers vertically scrolling shooting action. Players can choose from three distinct jets, each with varying speeds and firepower. Multiplayer action is available for two players simultaneously. Jets can move in any direction and fire shots, utilizing a roll maneuver (activated with the C button) for evasive tactics and brief invincibility. Power-ups provide diverse weaponry and upgrades, enhancing attack power and speed.

The game's depth is notable, with certain levels offering ground-based enemies and tanks that players can navigate over. The jets possess three hit points, and losing one from enemy fire or collision brings players closer to defeat. With limited lives, players must strategically manage their resources to survive and advance through the challenging levels. "Vapor Trail: Hyper Offence Formation" offers a mix of intense combat, diverse weapons, and cooperative gameplay, delivering an engaging shoot-'em-up experience on the Sega Mega Drive.
