I made a cheat code to replace part of one of the trumpets in Battle Frontier theme's Direct Sound B so you don't have to assemble the ROM. ^^ 08676AE8 XXXXXXXX (note there is a colon before XXXXXXXX).

For the values, check the MAP file mentioned in the TCRF article and enter the byte pairs back to front (e.g. for 0x00000000086bdc80 DirectSoundWaveData_unused_guitar_separates_power_chord XXXXXXXX is 80DC6B08.

The current labels for the unused or unknown instruments showcased in this video are:

Hi, I'm the one who named and documented the instruments in pokeemerald. The oboe is actually used in FRLG for the ending theme, so I wouldn't call it completely unused, though it is unused in Emerald's songs. Also, some of those "unused" ones are actually not unused (because I messed up and didn't see that some songs actually did use them). Also, for clarification: the "unknown" doesn't mean "don't know where it's used," it means "don't know what they sampled it from," i.e. the source is unknown. For example, the hihats were unknown at the time of naming (they're known now), but they are certainly not unused. The koto is also used--listen to the Battle Arena theme. The unknown female voice sample is also used in Battle Pike (and yes, neither of the voice samples have anything to do with the bard samples). "
