Varus guide with gameplay video explanation, patch 12.10 Durability.
8a quick write up for anybody that doesn't want to watch the whole video and would prefer a written guide.
Max e then w then q. your lane phase damage and wave control comes from your 575 attack range and E max, the cooldown goes down 2 seconds each rank and the ability haste from nashors helps lower this cd. then bursting your blight (applied from w or r) will also lower the cd of your basic abilities which brings your E cd down to a very low number. then in the mid game you max W second giving you high on hit ap damage also from your nashors and increasing your % damage for bursting blight which also scales off of ap. your riftmaker will be finished around this point giving you 9% true damage on all of your damage in extended combat also which is why the rune page runs lethal tempo to help you in extended fights while applying blight(auto attacks) from a safer distance. Next up is to finish the deathcap and at this point the game pace should be transitioning into late game (aram/teamfights) at this point it becomes really risky to auto since you will get one shot and you basically transition into an ap mage that one shots. you absolutely must hit your R since this is where most of your damage will come from in late game (being the safest way to apply blight since its too risky to auto attack).
Some quick tips to hitting your R is to use it as follow up cc from any of your teammates (this might lead to overkill but its better than missing your ult since it can still spread to other targets).
use it where 2-3 enemies are stacked so even if one flashes it will hit another.
use it during enemy long ability animations (seraphine ults you, ult her back right before hers hits you. same with thresh hook etc)
i highly suggest picking this build if your team needs AP damage to round out your comp but if you pick varus first and your team picks 3 ap champs after you will need to go ADC build otherwise they will stack MR and you will not be very impactful.
