The basic idea is that in concepting, developing, marketing, and distributing a game in the modern, hypercompetitive market only the great ideas executed well will breakthrough and simply having a good idea isn't enough. I want to talk about how brutally honest feedback on game concepts and prototypes from peers might be uncomfortable but it's important to challenge each other to make something great and unique in a crowded community of game developers. I will reference the literal hundreds of game pitches I see each year and what sort of things separate the great from the good and the questions developers might want to ask themselves and use to challenge their peers to keep elevating their work. The hope is that is attendees will step back and look at their own work and ask themselves these questions about their projects, assessing what might be good to iterate on more to create an experience that is new and unique in games.

This talk was a part of the Vector 2017 Game Development conference, held at Eastern Kentucky University in partnership with Idea Festival, the Kentucky Innovation Network, and Eastern Kentucky Gaming Institute.
