Jeff VanderMeer's first novel, Veniss Underground, is a fascinating if somewhat flawed work. A lot happens across these two-hundred-and-fifty pages: a heartbreaking tale of separation and rediscovery, a descent into the underworld, a Biblical struggle between man and cruel god--all of it written with prose at once substantial and with dreamlike quality.

It's an interesting book, is what I'm trying to say, and you should read it. Have you read any of VanderMeer's books? Have you seen the Netflix movie based on his eponymous book, Annihilation?
