Welcome to another episode of my Video Game Endings series, where we fast forward to the final battle in classic (and sometimes modern) video games! This time around, we're looking at the very first game in Sega's classic Streets of Rage series, and we'll even show you how to get the "bad ending" that you might not have known about!
Streets of Rage is a scrolling beat 'em up game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis in 1991. Players control one of three former police officers turned vigilantes who battle a sinister crime syndicate. Streets of Rage was created by Sega to be direct competition against similar games in the genre like Capcom's Final Fight and Tecmo's Double Dragon. This first game establishes many conventions that would later continue into the rest of the Streets of Rage series, such as two-player cooperative play and an acclaimed techno soundtrack from composer Yuzo Koshiro. It was later also ported for the Game Gear, Master System, Mega CD/Sega CD, and was re-released as part of various compilations and on download services.
