Virtual reality can put users inside imaginary or simulated environments with surprising realism. But until now, one could experience virtual worlds with just two senses—sight and sound. Robert Lindeman, associate professor of computer science, is creating technology that engages the other senses, particularly touch. Through innovations like the TactaVest and the TactaCage, he and his students are making virtual reality more engaging and more real.
