Your goal is to pilot your ship through these sectors and survive. Along the way, you can upgrade your ship and enhance your deck. Combat is real-time, meaning no turns—just fast-paced action. Using cards, you can fire missiles, guns, and AoE attacks, all while managing limited reload options and defending against enemy fire. Battles often pit you against multiple enemy ships, but you can only target one at a time, adding an extra layer of strategy.
Deck management plays a crucial role in the game. You’ll need to balance offensive and defensive cards to maintain your ship’s shields while defeating foes. Some enemies have shields, while others bombard you with missiles, forcing you to think quickly and adapt. Escaping battles is sometimes necessary, but as with most roguelikes, failure is part of the learning process.
As you progress, you unlock upgrades and add new cards to your deck, making each run more powerful. Even in its Early Access stage, Void Grimm offers smooth gameplay and tons of potential. For a game created by a solo developer, it already stands out as a strong contender in the genre. Regular updates are being rolled out, and upcoming faction quests promise to enrich the player experience even further.
There’s room for improvement—deck management before battles, for instance, could be more intuitive. But quality-of-life changes like this are likely on the developer’s radar.
