Unlike Slay the Spire, where you control a single character, Witch and Council features a party of characters, each with their own unique deck, which then merges into a single deck as you progress. It’s a fun and refreshing concept that sets it apart.
The game is on the easier side compared to Slay the Spire, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The story is lighthearted and the humor is full of slice-of-life anime and slapstick moments, making it a treat for fans of that style. The characters are quirky and endearing, and the tone is consistently cute and fun, without ever feeling overly complicated. It's an engaging experience.
The standout feature for me is definitely the art style. While Slay the Spire has its own charm, Witch and Council’s adorable aesthetic is a huge selling point. It’s not just cute; it also helps create a lighter, more whimsical atmosphere that makes the gameplay feel unique.
There are a few minor issues worth mentioning: there are some grammatical hiccups later in the game, and watching card animations can be a bit slow—especially when you're generating multiple free cards in a single turn. However, this doesn’t drag the experience down too much. Additionally, when claiming scroll rewards, the character portrait can partially obscure the text, but it’s a minor issue that doesn’t impact gameplay.
If you’re looking for a Slay the Spire-style roguelike with a focus on adorable art, engaging characters, and fun mechanics, Witch and Council: The Card is definitely worth checking out.
