War Thunder AB #318 (PC) - M6A1 with 10 kills on Poland
Pretty bad start on this map with the Jumbo Sherman. Still missing a lot of upgrades there and even when spaded the gun is nothing to brag about. It's pretty weak and forces you into close range engagements where you can easily get flanked. I'm not getting flanked at close range here but someone from across the lake that didn't appear on my map got lucky. I don't think that he would have been able to stay out of sight about one year ago but there were a handful of patches altering spotting and minimap behavior. I still don't like these changes. They were probably focused on battling cheaters. While I'm not cheating (as you can probably tell by watching my videos) the changes were detrimental to my own performance, so it's understandable that I'm not really welcoming them. I guess most of the cheating is done within the RB and SB modes as I haven't notice out of the ordinary things before or after the patch on a regular basis. Other than with Battlefield for example, where it's pretty obvious when there are cheaters around.
But whatever it just can't be helped. Next up is the M6A1 and while I'm not that successful in taking revenge on the foes on the opposite side of the lake, things improve once I enter the town and into medium/close range combat. We do meet a lot of KV-1s which are a tough nut to crack for most American guns, especially when angled. So I just resort to aiming for the turret cheeks, hoping for the best. I had one or two nice side shot opportunities for this match but my shots got eaten up by the tracks without even damaging them. I think that this particular part of the damage model is somewhat broken and needs to get fixed. I get it that the tracks might actually be able to stop a shell from doing any serious damage inside the tank but it's not realistic that they don't take any damage in the process. So give us at least a de-track in exchange for the blocked shot. That lengthy engagement of three of our tanks versus that one single KV-1 at the lakeside capzone was a bit disappointing with just a meagre asssist. Near the end of the game I'm able to take down another KV-1 of the same player all by myself as some sort of redemption. As soon as we took the church and the lakeside the game was more or less decided and there wasn't that much resistance from the enemy team anymore, resulting in a rather short match.
