War Thunder AB #323 (PC) - Peek-a-boo on Poland with 88 mm Flak 37 and Panzer IV G
This is the last video I prepared just mere hours before I had to call an ambulance due to tumor bleeding.
Heavy Metal Hero, On Hand.
We are back again on Poland. I think last time we secured the northern flank with the 88 mm Flak, now we get closer to the city, driving along the edge, checking every street and alley for potential targets. This is not just to offer alternating views of the battlefield but also because there's only one cap zone this time and it's situated near the church in the middle of town.
There's not much interference by enemy artillery or air force for a change but there's a bit of downtime before we are entering combat for real.
I feel sorry for that allied KV-1 on main street. I think I could have saved him from that Jagdpanzer IV. I had green indicators for 2 shots but they swayed a bit too much and went into the concrete of the buildings. I didn't want to expose myself anymore than I did there. I think I got unlucky in this engagement and he, the KV-1, had to suffer for it. It's always difficult to fight this way and I think in real life barely anyone would actually risk to take shots like this as they could easily hit the allied tank. In this game there is no friendly fire, though (save for a few exceptions with artillery or planes).
Check that sneaky T-34 at 03:10. All I can say to this is that u can't afford to miss an 'easy' shot like this on an unsuspecting 88 mm at this distance. I know the accuracy of the T-34 at long range isn't that great but I guess he could have switched to HE first to make up for that. But since his shot wasn't on spot I was able to retaliate pretty swiftly despite his turret bouncing my first shot.
When I drive blindly into one of the street openings at 03:58 I didn't think that there would be a Panzer III. With a 'regular' tank with fitting BR for this match his reload wouldn't have finished by the time I showed myself (judged by the missed shot on the allied M10). I'm still doing this too often, though. In arcade, please abuse the 3rd person camera and check the possible opposition before driving into the open! It's especially dangerous with the flak bus since you need to expose a lot of your vehicle before you are able to open fire. It doesn't really matter if you drive forwards or backwards. Forward they can take out your engine, set you on fire or outright hull break you and backwards you are presenting that juicy ammunition storage. Since the ammo is harder to hit, I guess you should go backwards if you can. While this street in particular was about to become some kind of a 'whack a mole' shooting gallery I had to leg it due to incoming artillery.
The part we move to is difficult to fight at because there are so many angles from which you can get engaged, sometimes even without any enemy showing up on the minimap or the game screen. Thanks to the high velocity of our gun, taking shots through obstacles isn't that difficult, though. The target indicator isn't necessary at the distances we fight at here. Getting any closer to the cap zone is more or less suicide. Regular tanks are something I can handle pretty well with the flak bus, but the Wirbelwind that shows up is a real pain. I manage to escape his first barrage but before I can complete my repairs he is able to take me down along a different angle, through the open space of two buildings.
While returning to the action with a Panzer IV G I exploit the reloading break of an enemy IV G after he took out the allied F2 right in front of me. And yeah I'm able to take revenge on that annoying Wirbelwind right after that. Always feels good to return a favor. When I rush in to cap, my ineffective shot on that StuG really cost me dearly as this enables one T-34 to sneak up on me from another angle, causing serious damage. I don't know why I rushed my shot on the StuG since he just fired himself and was reloading anyway. I only survived the aftermath of this subpar shot with luck as you can see. My team apparently failed to keep an eye on the northern approaches, enabling one Ostwind to take aim at my backside while I was busy with a ZIS-30 to the south.
I don't know why it's always a problem that everyone is checking the same direction instead of watching different angles. One of the biggest mysteries of War Thunder I guess. Well, that's it for this game.
