A comparison of the various movement tactics that I've noticed in this game so far, from slowest to fastest.

Riding on horse is usually the best movement tactic during the early game. But especially now with the advent of the angled character glitch that precludes using a horse, the importance of fast on-foot movement tactics has increased in speedruns.

I used the start of the Anegawa level as the basis for comparison. How fast can you reach from the starting point to the nearest locked gate to the north? And... go!

Note: the weapon skill Agility matters a lot with any movement tactic that is attack-based. Maxed out Agility saves around 2-3 seconds compared to not having it in this comparison. These clips were captured so that all the characters who benefit from it have max Agility.

---

0:00 - normal running, Speed 150. This is your usual ninja running speed, roughly as fast as normal characters go in this game without any buffs. (31 secs)

0:37 - riding an elephant. The elephant should have a Speed 180, which is slightly slower than a regular horse. (26 secs)

1:08 - Sima Shi's sprint attack spam. Since Sima Shi has a sidestep, you are able to use his Rapier-style sprint attack over and over again quite rapidly. (25 secs)

1:39 - Xu Shu's double jump & air charge attack spam. Double jump gives you a high speed as long as you remain in air. Xu Shu can extend the air time by quite a lot with his charge air attack, and so you can use it for fast movement. (24 secs)

2:08 - Nagamasa Azai's special spam. His special attack is a type of dash and it can be quickly interrupted with double jump. Worst part is that it drains a ton of Musou and is therefore somewhat impractical. (23 secs)

2:38 - Xiahou Yuan's regular air attack spam. This game has a small momentum exploit that gives some characters extra speed to their jump if they jump almost frame precisely when they start moving. You can combine that with Xiahou Yuan's regular air attack which behaves oddly with any existing air momentum and boosts the speed even further.

Hence, doing small jumps and regular air attacks and banking on the momentum exploit is a surprisingly fast movement style for Xiahou Yuan. This movement style is difficult to do consistently, though. (23 secs)

3:06 - Xingcai's special spam. She slides around on her shield during her special. At the end, the cooldown of the attack can be interrupted with double jump. (22 secs)

(Note: spamming Xingcai's air special is also a fast movement tactic, but slower than using ground special.)

3:34 - Kotaru Fuma's Musou. In general, using a Samurai-style Musou attack to move around is incredibly impractical because it costs so much Musou. But if you really want to do it, Kotaru Fuma is your best option. (22 secs)

4:03 - Xiahou Ba's speed buff, Speed 125. Xiahou Ba's special grants him the same attack & movement speed buff that Zhang He has, and in any% you get to use him earlier than Zhang He too. Sadly Xiahou Ba's low base Speed and the high Musou cost of the special makes him the far inferior option as far as speed movement goes. (21 secs)

4:31 - Yukimura Sanada's air special spam. This attack is not only good for infinite jumps but it's a fast movement tactic too. Yukimura is truly the hero of Warriors Orochi 3 speedruns. (20 secs)

4:57 - Sanzang's air charge attack. She and Seimei Abe have a peculiar air charge attack where they turn into a glider that moves at a fast speed. Good overall speed, especially down slopes. It's not on the vid, but Seimei Abe's version is slightly clunkier and is 1 or 2 seconds slower than Sanzang's on this path. (19 secs)

5:22 - Red Hare, the fastest horse in the game. Speed may be around 260? To note, each Musou boost you do on horse saves around 3 seconds from the final time, so horse has the potential to be even faster as long as you have Musou. (18 secs)

5:45 - Zhang He's speed buff, Speed 190+. He is generally the best option in speedruns once you get him. To note, this speed buff is subject to the universal running Speed cap that is 360, and you reach it with Zhang He relatively easily since his base Speed is so high. (17 secs)

6:10 - normal running, Speed 360. This Speed can be reached relatively easily once you have a single lv. 100 character due to the promotions and upgrade stones exploits. Hence, in longer speedrun categories that's the point when Zhang He becomes obsolete. (13 secs)

6:30 - maxed out Benkei, air special spam. Benkei's special is unique as it uses both his base speed AND gains a bonus from Agility. Therefore it's one of the few ways in this game to break the running speed cap of 360. Worst part is that the speed can be inconsistent, slowing down at random intervals. It's also difficult to control since it goes so fast. The special also has to be reset frequently by switching characters. (11 secs)

6:48 - honorable mention: Zuo Ci's air special speed is sometimes outrageously high if you don't press to any direction on the L-stick.
